Indeed, I am beginning to understand the importance of reliable gear. Just like Ken said, if your gear fails on a trip you're SOL. All of that time and money and sweat poured into reaching your destination could be thrown out the window. This is exactly what happened to me in California, and it happened the day the mackerel were going bonkers at the pier!
