 I know how they taste because sometimes I'll bite off a section of the body to make them even shorter to fit on short shank hooks. I don't always have a pair of scissors or a knife...so biting works Plus, until you taste them on your own, how do you know the lures really taste different and not just marketing?  (just kidding...I don't taste all my soft plastics )
