RE: Tackle/Fishing Supplies..Tips/Tricks
Aluminum die cast lightweight fly reel for $30
I just got this fly reel at DHgate.com(a competitor of Ebay - offering reseller direct from China) for under $30. DHgate has some bad ratings from buyers so be careful who you buy from. I bought the reel from mumu9r-fishing, since they have excellent rating. I was happy with the reel and the customer service. I was not sure how to convert from righty to lefty drag system and they sent me a video on how to change it. DHGATE policy is Seller does not get paid until buyers confirm they have received the product and happy with it. Some other US and CA customer also bought from this reseller. I took the plunge to try DHgate.com and it paid off at least the first time! Watch a video about my review on this reel. http://s223.photobucket.com/albums/dd294...I_0001.mp4 Fly reel drag system is good, comparable to other $100 fly reel. Can also be lossen to palm our reel face. The reel spins very smoothly and has two ball bearing. Some cheaper graphite reel I tested does not spin smooth at all. I know fly fishing does not necessary need a drag or smooth spinning. For those who wanted to fight with big salmon, I suggest get the next size up, the bigger spool will contain more line backing in case you need extra line to fight salmon. Otherwise , for river fishing, I am happy with the lightweight (145grms)YS-85 3.5" diameter model reel. The drag system will also help avoid accidental bird nesting. weigh - 145 Grams size 3.5" diameter for 6-7 weight fly line. The seller claim 7-8. Since it has infinite drag and lightweight, I can also use an 8 weight fly line, just shorter. I was able to put 40 yrds of 12lb mono backing first plus 90+ feet of fly line. I got my line off BPS when it was on sale for $10, the white river fly line has two section, yellow backing section is way thinner than the main blue colored fly line. Main line has tappered section on both ends. mumu9r-fishing have a complete set of aluminum fly reel 7-8 wt + fly line + leader for $25. but the fly reel included was around 212 grms. They sell their fly line for $11. They also have a lot of spinning and Baitcasting reel and lures. I am still leary on the total weight or drag system on these reel, I do not have the courage yet to buy any other reel. Daiwa regal 2500 spinning reel can sell for under $30, so I would not bother with any unknown brand name reel regardless of the number of bearings. I bought a 10 bearing spinning reel 2 years back from a chinese reseller in Toronto for $15, the drag is just okay, good for bass fishing or fish under 5 lb. Though Shimano has 3 to 5 bearings, the reel drag system was way smoother than my Daiwa regal or the unknown china reel with 10 bearings. |
