I like most anglers do prefer to use the custom made commercial sinkers………. when it’s logical.
However – in many situations it makes sense to use other things as an expendable weight. Long term - Lead and cadmium are not really all that great for the environment… and do fetch a significant price these days. Tungsten lasts forever – but the prices are really wow. Larger old steel nuts and bolts you scavenge from your trashed stuff - are not as dense – are environmentally safe (they simply will rust away) - and a whole whack cheaper to use when you know most will be lost on the end of a dropper rig in snag infested (or new-to-you) waters. Just tie ‘em on the end with a granny knot or two - so they will release if stressed a lot………… The fish don’t bite the sinkers! Keep a few in your kit and try it.
