RE: Discovering New Fishing Opportunities
You can use all the tools and resources available...

...but nothing is remotely close to this...

1) Put the keys into the ignition

2) Put your foot on the pedal

3) Drive, explore and fish

On Saturday, MA was asking me how I found out about some of the spots we fish...and it was as simple and easy as 1-2-3.

Malama o ke kai

Caution - Objects in picture are smaller than they appear. I am genetically predisposed to make fish look bigger.

Agreed.............. but first one should have in mind a possibly "good spot" place to drive to..................

I agree with what you are saying.

However...consider this...

It is one thing to say "Lake X" is a good place to fish...

It is quite different to say "Spot A on Lake X" is THE place to fish...

And it is even more different when you know "Lake X" is a good place to fish...then you explore "Lake X" on your own in more depth, outside of "Spot A" to find your own and sometimes better place to fish...

That kind of information is not readily shared...especially by people who have done their own exploring...and the only way you can discover them is by doing your own footwork.

As I've said in the linked thread...

It is helpful to use technology (GoogleMaps, GPS topo maps, or old fashion maps) to find potential spots...but they are just that...potential...

You will not know truly how good they could be until you have actually try them on your own. The challenge with shorefishing is multi-fold. Seasonal usage of habitat and the change in the habitat throughout the year dictates how productive the location may be. Some types of fish and fishing technique is inherently limited because of those factors.

At the end...nothing is more important than doing your own exploring and fishing the locations at different times of the year to figure out details on your own.

Agreed, and it wasn't my intent to imply that my method was anything more than that. The number of places that I have found with that method, gone to, and skunked on, far outweighs the good spots. (insert head-bashing smilie here)

When I have tried a spot I edit my GPS entry; a + ahead of it means that it was successful, a * means that I tried it but didn't get anything, but also didn't have the time to really evaluate it, and a - means that I spent a fair bit of time there, maybe a couple of times, and got absolute diddley squat. The reason I don't remove it from my GPS is due to my lousy memory; I might just re-enter it later, totally forgetting that I wasted my time there. Blush
