RE: Fishing a spinner in a river
I found this recently and thought it would be of interest (Float Fishing with a spinner):

RE: Fishing a spinner in a river
Interesting.

I would think that this would require at least 4 feet or more of river depth, and a healthy current to work well.............. Must try it a bit next year.

..............Might be a great way of getting your spinner back in under an overhanging tree branch by casting upstream and close to the bank and then floating it down to the target area before the retrieve.

What gear would you use if you want to use mepps #2-#3?

I think i need to down size my rod and line.

RE: Fishing a spinner in a river
Michael used spinners a couple of times last spring. Check out this report again to see the gear he was using. Definitely not downsizing...upsize is what you would want to do. They smash spinners aggressively and they will snap light leader on the hit. You also want heavier line in case you snag and you need to bend out the hook to retrieve your spinner.

Malama o ke kai

Caution - Objects in picture are smaller than they appear. I am genetically predisposed to make fish look bigger.

- a size 4 or 5 then?

I usually reserve those sizes for big pike and muskie.

Size #3, but go heavier on leader, mainline and rod.
