Generally, the under appreciate bobber (I prefer using a slip bobber because it allows me to reel in and cast) can keep you above the weeds. Great for reeling in live bait just above the weeds were the bass are hiding.

The weeds are something we want to keep. They are great habitat for fish and they provide a source for food. Try using weedless/hook with a weed guard, lure. Usually where there's weeds there's fish.

I've had friends tell me they moved out of weedy areas to cast their lures because they kept getting stuck on weeds... needless to say they didn't catch much after changing spots
