Sweet trip dudes. Good to see Michael rocking that beard as well.
Snag Proff makes a frog that I bet will take snakeheads when they're active. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Snag_Proo...SPBPB.html I picked one up to try next chance I get! |

Snakeheads often grab the legs of the frogs and pull the frogs underwater before repositioning the prey in the mouth. I read different articles on how you miss a lot of bites that way. The Killer Frogs has the double hooks positioned behind the leg tassels, which allow the hooks to be taken in the mouth when the snakehead grab the back of the lure. You get higher hooking percentage that way. Maybe I'm drinking the KoolAid...but so far I've missed a Giant Snakehead that grabbed the skirt of a buzzbait, and I've missed a Northern Snakehead when it grabbed by Snag Proof frog but can't get a hookset on it. I'll keep trying the Killer Frogs to see if the hooking percentage goes up. Also, the Killer Frogs are made with hard resin...which I assume will last longer than soft plastics with the toothy snakeheads. Buzz blade attachment is definitely important. Just out of curiosity, have you tried using nighcrawlers (the kinds we use up here) in saltwater on this trip or elsewhere? I know it would kill the worm fast but I’m just curious what would happen otherwise.

In saltwater dew worms VERY quickly die, turn to mush then fall to pieces.
<>< I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. ><> See you on the river. |

RE: Florida Road Trip 2012/2013 [Part 4 of 4]
We did use chunks of nightcrawlers on the last day in Tampa. We caught the Silver Perch, Horse-eye Jack and Pinfish when we tipped the sabiki rigs with the nightcrawler. They don't last long as OT said, but if you have nothing else to tip the hooks, it's an option and it did get bit rather well.
