Check out Bluffer's Park (Scarborough Bluffs) some time, especially the channels between the yacht club and the mainland. All sorts of panfish, small bass, some good sized pike, bullhead, and of course the occasional herd of carp. Great place to see fish even when they're not biting, which of course you can learn a lot from. In the fall there were salmon and brown trout, which are harder to catch.
